The MELODY remote ultrasound imaging system helps address the growing problem of « medical desertification » – the shortage of medical care in underserved areas. During an ultrasound exam, the expert radiologist uses very precise movements that cannot be guided solely by voice commands or by video.
Tele-ultrasound imaging allows an ultrasound exam to be carried out on a patient using the proper techniques under medical supervision while the expert is located at a different site. The expert is actually the one to maneuver the ultrasound probe on the patient’s body via the MELODY robotic arm, in real-time.
MELODY has been scientifically proven and has been the subject of numerous publications in esteemed international journals.
The MELODY Expert site and the MELODY Patient site are connected via the Internet to facilitate the exchange of information in real-time and the takeover of control.
Our maneuvering and viewing platform was designed to make it easy for radiologists to learn. The « dummy probe », much like an ultrasound probe, is used to easily and quickly control the robot from a remote location.
Our remote control unit (available by country) gives the radiologist total power over the setup parameters of ultrasound images, such as Gain Control, Depth Control, Frequency Change, and activation of various ultrasound modes (e.g., Color Doppler, Pulse Wave Doppler).
Last but not least, the videoconferencing system lets the physician see and speak with the patient (in HD and highly sensitive microphone).
A medical professional not trained in ultrasonography (such as a general practitioner, EKG technician, or nurse) assists the radiologist by positioning the robot on the patient’s body.
MELODY Patient then accurately replicates all of the movements made by the radiologist. MELODY also has a universal interface for mounting most ultrasound probes available on the market.
Lastly, the videoconferencing system lets the patient see and speak with the physician (in HD and highly sensitive microphone).
All MELODY Expert sites can be connected to any existing MELODY Patient site (subject to authorization) for other purposes such as tele-expertise.
Minimum bandwidth of 2 Mbps upstream and downstream.
